History of University of Memphis' Association of Black Journalists
Our chapter was revived in August 2008 by seven students seeking diversity and change within the University of Memphis Journalism department.
Almost every goal set by the founding members were met including bringing awareness to black media, diversifying campus publications and introducing journalism students to a new perspective regarding media as a whole. Since our founding we have hosted a plethora of local and national speakers including but not limited to, founder of the Sisterhood Showcase and publisher of Grace Magazine Tina Birchett, Fox-13 News anchor Ernie Freeman, Commercial Appeal columnist Otis Sanford, and Wall Street Journal staff reporter Lee Hawkins. |
